Israel and USA attack Iran – Ayatollah Ali Khamenei killed
After weeks of negotiations between the USA and Iran, which failed to produce an agreement, Israel and the USA attacked Iran from the air on Saturday morning, March 1, 2026. Tehran responded with counter-strikes against the Jewish state and the Arab countries in the region: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Bahrain, Syria, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates UAE. On Sunday night, Iran confirmed that Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, had also been killed in the first wave of attacks.
According to information from Jerusalem, the Israeli air force deliberately flew its first attacks after sunrise so that the damage caused would be clearly visible. The attack was coordinated with Israel’s closest ally, the USA, which also took part. Explosions were reported in Tehran and other Iranian cities. It is the second war against the Islamic State since the 12-day war last June, when Israel and the US inflicted a crushing defeat on Iran. Iran responded with missile attacks on its Arab neighbors and on Israel. To date, only one casualty has been reported from Abu Dhabi. A building in the Jordanian capital Amman is said to have been hit. In Israel, the population has been called upon to seek shelter. The attack on arch-enemy Iran was also welcomed by the Israeli opposition.
As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu explained on Saturday morning, the aim is to enable the Iranian people to change their regime and eliminate Israel’s greatest threat once and for all. US President Donald Trump addressed the Iranians with the words: “The hour of freedom has come.” He called on the people of Tehran to stay in their homes for the time being. Trump also said that Iran’s missile arsenal would be destroyed and that he would ensure that the Islamist state would never have nuclear weapons: In recent months, Iranians have repeatedly protested against the Islamist mullah regime. The Iranian government crushed these protests with massive violence and killed tens of thousands of civilians. Nevertheless, there have been renewed demonstrations against Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s regime in recent days, probably in the hope of receiving military support from the USA and Israel.
In recent weeks, the USA has deployed a huge armada with two of its largest aircraft carriers to the eastern Mediterranean and the Arabian Sea. At the same time, the American government negotiated a peaceful solution with Iran under the mediation of Oman. The focus was on the demand that Iran must abandon its nuclear program, as there is ample evidence that this program is intended for the production of nuclear weapons and not for civilian use. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has also just reconfirmed that Iran is storing uranium that is far more enriched than would be necessary for civilian purposes. However, Iran was not prepared to give up uranium enrichment and hand over the already highly enriched uranium because this would have meant a total loss of face for the regime. Moreover, the goal of destroying Israel has been one of the declared cornerstones of Iranian policy since the mullahs took power in 1979 after the fall of the Shah. To achieve this goal, the Iranian regime needs nuclear weapons. Given the range of its missiles, however, these would also have posed a threat to Europe.
According to American and Israeli sources, the date of the current attack was set weeks ago. Apparently, the American president wanted to give the negotiations with Iran time until the end of February. However, remarks made by Trump the day before the attack indicated that he had run out of patience due to the lack of substantial progress. On Friday, a few hours before the attack on Iran, he said that sometimes you are forced to use force. Both the American and Israeli leaders made it clear that this military strike will continue with all force until its objectives are achieved.
