{"id":3974,"date":"2024-01-09T09:15:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T08:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fokusisrael.ch\/?page_id=3974"},"modified":"2025-10-15T13:01:52","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T11:01:52","slug":"switzerland-and-israel","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/fokusisrael.ch\/en\/israel-and-the-middle-east\/switzerland-and-israel\/","title":{"rendered":"Switzerland and Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the massacre of 7 October 2023, in which over 1,200 Israeli infants, children, adolescents, women and men were horrifically murdered by members of the Palestinian <a href=\"https:\/\/mirt.pcfox.ch\/index.php\/palaestinensische-und-islamistische-terrororganisationen\/hamas-und-ihre-ziele\/\">terrorist organization Hamas<\/a>, the Swiss public has shown great support for Israel.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Switzerland and Israel have also enjoyed close economic and military relations for many decades. There are different currents in Swiss politics: At parliamentary level (National Council and Council of States), there has been clear support for Israel&#8217;s right to self-defense and condemnation of Palestinian terror, particularly since the Hamas terrorist attack on October 7, 2023. In the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), on the other hand, anti-Israel tendencies have dominated at official level since the term of office of former Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey, which is also reflected in Switzerland&#8217;s voting behavior in the <a href=\"https:\/\/mirt.pcfox.ch\/index.php\/uno-und-ngos\/\">UN<\/a>.
