After the UN Security Council vote: Hamas with its back to the wall

This week, the United Nations Security Council approved the 20-point peace plan for Gaza presented by US President Donald Trump in September by 13 votes to zero. Russia and China abstained from the vote.

The peace plan includes the establishment of a technocratic administration for the Gaza Strip under the aegis of a so-called “peace council”, which is to be led by Trump himself.

Above all, however, the plan also provides for the disarmament of the terrorist organization Hamas and the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip. An international stabilization force is to be responsible for this. It is currently unclear which nations will be involved. So far, various Islamic states have signaled their willingness to participate in the force, in addition to various European states. In addition to Egypt and Turkey, which is, however, rejected by Israel as being too close to Hamas, these include Indonesia, the largest Islamic country in the world, and Azerbaijan.

Hamas, which agreed to the implementation of the first phase of the US peace plan in October with the release of all Israeli hostages, rejects disarmament. However, now that not only Qatar and Turkey, its two most important sponsors alongside Iran, but also the UN are supporting the plan, the Palestinian terrorist organization now has its back to the wall not only militarily but also politically. Because if the peace plan fails, it will have to bear the sole responsibility for it.
